Preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting moved into the heart of Antigua and Barbuda’s cricket culture on Thursday evening, as the CHOGM Media and Public Affairs Committee completed the first of a series of public-engagement activations at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Delivered in partnership with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons during their match against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, the activation introduced CHOGM 2026 to cricket fans through an energetic combination of branding, audience participation, photography and social media engagement.
Spectators received co-branded “4” and “6” boundary cards to display when boundaries were scored, creating visible moments of excitement throughout the stands. Fans also participated in photo opportunities with a branded CHOGM sign and handheld cut-outs.
CHOGM social media correspondents interacted with spectators and captured photographs, videos, interviews and vox pops exploring cricket, the legacy of Sir Vivian Richards, national pride and the experiences that visitors should not miss while in Antigua and Barbuda.
One of the questions posed to spectators was: “Over 5,000 people are coming to Antigua and Barbuda for CHOGM. What is one place they have to visit or one activity they have to experience before they leave?”
Chaneil Imhoff, Branding Lead for the CHOGM Media and Public Affairs Committee, said the activation was designed to make CHOGM more visible and relatable to the public.
“CHOGM is much more than the meetings taking place in November. It is a national moment, and our responsibility is to bring the public into the journey in ways that feel engaging, accessible and authentically Antiguan and Barbudan. Cricket is deeply connected to our identity, so the CPL provided the perfect setting to combine national pride, public participation and awareness of CHOGM.”
Imhoff also thanked the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons for supporting the initiative and facilitating the production of the co-branded boundary cards.
Sharifa George, Co-Chair of the CHOGM Media and Public Affairs Committee, said the collaboration reflects the Committee’s wider public-sensitisation strategy.
“As Antigua and Barbuda prepares to welcome thousands of delegates and visitors from across the Commonwealth, it is important that our citizens understand the significance of CHOGM and experience the unity that the Commonwealth represents. Cricket is deeply engrained in the history of Antigua and Barbuda and this activation is setting the stage for what is to come in November.”
The activation also highlighted the important connections among cricket, national identity and sports tourism while creating opportunities for residents and visitors to engage directly with the CHOGM brand.
The CHOGM Media and Public Affairs Committee will continue its activation during the remaining CPL matches at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on August 22, 23 and 25.
Further discussions are anticipated with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons regarding opportunities for continued collaboration leading up to the CHOGM cricket celebration planned for later in 2026.
Antigua and Barbuda will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting from November 1 to 4, 2026, welcoming leaders, delegates and representatives from across the Commonwealth under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.”
