Dear Editor,
I am writing to highlight the unproductive and unprofessional conduct that appears to exist within some statutory corporations and government workplaces.
Since August 11, I have repeatedly called the Social Security office to schedule an appointment, but no one has answered the telephone. It is therefore extremely frustrating to see employees apparently finding time to participate in TikTok Live broadcasts during working hours while members of the public are unable to receive basic assistance.
Employees are paid to serve the public, and citizens deserve prompt, courteous and professional service. If workers have enough time to be live on TikTok during official working hours, they should certainly have enough time to answer the telephone and assist the people whose contributions help sustain the institution.
Management must address this conduct and ensure employees remain focused on their duties during working hours. The people of Antigua and Barbuda deserve better.
A Concerned Citizen
