A police outpost in St John’s Rural South is expected to become fully operational once nearly 50 newly trained officers complete their training, Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin said during a town hall meeting.

Benjamin told residents that the facility is not yet staffed around the clock because of current manpower limitations within the police force.

“We are a little short of police officers, so we can’t have it manned for 24 hours a day,” he said.

However, he noted that approximately 50 recruits have recently completed training and will soon bolster the ranks. Once they are fully deployed, the outpost is expected to operate at full capacity.

“As soon as they are fully trained, we shall be having that outpost always manned,” Benjamin said.

The attorney general also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to law enforcement, stressing that community cooperation is key to maintaining safety in the area.

The police outpost was established in response to concerns about crime within sections of the constituency. Residents have previously raised issues about security and called for a stronger police presence.

Officials say the additional officers will not only strengthen staffing at the outpost but also improve patrol coverage throughout the constituency.

Benjamin said the government remains committed to supporting law enforcement efforts and ensuring that communities feel secure.
