The tropical cyclone alert for the Leeward Islands and British Virgin Islands has been discontinued as hostile atmospheric conditions make development of the weather disturbance AL92 unlikely.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service said Friday that no tropical cyclone watches or warnings are in effect, although the system is still expected to bring unsettled weather to the region over the next 24 to 36 hours.

Forecaster Lenard Josiah said rainfall totals of 0.5 to 2 inches are possible, potentially causing minor flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Wind gusts could reach 65 kph (40 mph), while seas are forecast to build to between 8 and 12 feet.

A high wind advisory and small craft warning are scheduled to take effect at 5 p.m. Friday.

Residents are being advised to secure loose and lightweight outdoor objects, while mariners are urged to remain in port because of hazardous marine conditions.

The Meteorological Service said it will continue monitoring AL92 and provide further updates if necessary.
