Tropical Depression Likely as AL92’s Development Chance Rises to 80%

A tropical depression is likely to form in the central Atlantic as forecasters continue to monitor Tropical Disturbance AL92.

In its 8 a.m. update Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center said the system was producing showers and thunderstorms about 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Environmental conditions are expected to support further development during the next several days as AL92 moves west to west-northwest across the central tropical Atlantic.

The system now has an 80% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone within both 48 hours and seven days.

Two other systems are also being monitored. AL93, located about 1,050 miles east-northeast of Bermuda, has a 50% chance of briefly becoming a tropical storm before reaching cooler waters Thursday.

Meanwhile, a tropical wave just off the West African coast has a 20% chance of development within 48 hours and a 30% chance during the next seven days. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest across the tropical Atlantic.
