On Friday January 16, 2026, teachers, principals, school attendance counsellors and ancillary staff across the public education system in Antigua and Barbuda were engaged in training and retraining sessions on Positive Behaviour Management (PBM) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). From all reports, this initiative was exceptionally well received.

Designed to strengthen and streamline PBM and SEL practices in all public schools, the training sessions centred on the PBM Teachers’ Manual and accompanying workbooks introduced two years ago. Facilitators reported strong participation, noting that attendees engaged enthusiastically in discussions, collaborative activities, and reflective exercises aimed at promoting best practices in behaviour management and social‑emotional development.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. The insights gathered through evaluation tools will be used to further refine and improve the programme to ensure continued relevance and effectiveness.

A team of Education Officers, principals, and teachers served as facilitators and co‑facilitators across twenty-five (25) schools and centres island‑wide. While some approached their roles with initial hesitation, particularly first‑time trainers, they demonstrated outstanding professionalism and adaptability. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to build safe, nurturing, and well‑managed learning spaces for students.

The Ministry of Education extends its sincere appreciation to all educators and ancillary personnel who participated, as well as to the dedicated facilitators who helped make these sessions impactful. Special thanks are also extended to UNICEF for its continued support of this important programme.

The Ministry remains committed to advancing PBM and SEL initiatives to help students and stakeholders foster strong relationships, interact positively, and model behaviours that support holistic student development.
