Prime Minister Gaston Browne is urging CARICOM leaders to position the region to benefit from advances in artificial intelligence, describing the technology as transformative and unavoidable.

Speaking during an ABS interview following the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting, Browne said developments in AI are moving at a rapid pace and the region must not be left behind.

“What is happening with AI now is just mind-boggling,” Browne said.

He argued that artificial intelligence has the potential to reshape industries, boost productivity and create new economic opportunities for small states like those in the Caribbean.

Browne said CARICOM should actively explore how AI can be integrated into governance, education, business and other sectors to improve efficiency and competitiveness.

The prime minister also referenced his own experimentation with AI tools in creative projects, noting how technology can enhance productivity and refine output.

His comments come amid growing global debate over artificial intelligence’s economic, regulatory and ethical implications. Browne suggested that early adoption and strategic planning would allow CARICOM countries to harness the benefits of the emerging technology wave rather than struggle to catch up.
