The Central Board of Health on Feb. 24 conducted a comprehensive training session aimed at strengthening the capacity of custodians and groundsmen across several public institutions.

Forty participants attended the session, including custodial and grounds staff from the Muriel O’Mard Campus, Dr. Alister Francis Campus, Eustace Hill Campus and the School of Agriculture, along with representatives from the National Office of Disaster Services, the National Solid Waste Management Authority and the Environment Division. The training was hosted by the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies.

Participants received practical guidance on cleaning and sanitizing techniques, pest control practices, waste management and sanitation, the safe and effective use of chemicals, and the proper use of personal protective equipment.

Officials said the initiative underscores the critical role custodians and groundsmen play in maintaining safe and healthy environments in schools and workplaces.

The Board noted that proper cleaning and disinfection are essential to preventing the spread of germs, reducing pest infestations and protecting the health of staff, students and the wider community.

The Central Board of Health said it remains committed to supporting frontline workers through ongoing training and capacity-building efforts.
