Source State Media: The Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation has begun demolishing derelict and abandoned buildings in St. John’s as part of a wider push to improve safety and restore the appearance of the capital.

Urban Development Minister Rawdon Turner said the structure on Lower Newgate Street had been abandoned for more than a decade.

The demolition follows amenity orders issued to property owners late last year, which gave them an opportunity to repair or address the condition of neglected buildings before enforcement action was taken.
