A jet ski rider was hospitalized with severe burns after an explosion off Hawksbill Beach on Friday afternoon.

Witnesses said the watercraft burst into flames while offshore, with beachgoers hearing a loud explosion before rushing to assist and alert emergency services.

The man was pulled from the water and taken to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment. His condition has not been disclosed.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion.
