ITU data shows internet use varies widely across CARICOM, from over 90% to under 50%

Internet use across CARICOM ranges from 92.5% of the population in The Bahamas to 47.9% in Haiti, according to 2024 estimates from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The indicator captures anyone who used the internet from any location, on any device, at least once in the past three months – a relatively low threshold. The global average stands at 73.6%.

Most member states cluster between 68% and 83%, but the distribution holds some surprises. Guyana (83.0%) and Belize (80.0%), both upper-middle-income economies, record higher usage rates than Barbados (70.4%) and Antigua and Barbuda (72.7%), both classified as high-income by the World Bank.

Factors such as data affordability, infrastructure reach, age demographics and market competition all shape how access translates into regular use across the region.
