The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved official funerals for respected physician Dr. Catherine Lake and former Senator Mary-Claire Hurst in recognition of their contributions to national development and public service.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant announced the decision during Thursday’s post-Cabinet briefing, describing both women as having made significant contributions to Antigua and Barbuda.
Merchant said Dr. Lake played an important role in the country’s healthcare development, while Hurst served the nation in public life as a senator.
“The Cabinet agreed that both individuals will be granted official funerals,” Merchant said.
According to Merchant, the official funeral for former Senator Mary-Claire Hurst is scheduled for June 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine.
He added that arrangements for the official funeral of Dr. Catherine Lake will be announced in the coming days.
