Antiguan Soca artist, Art Phillip, stage name Drastic was named Songwriter of the Year at the National Music Awards on Tuesday night, with a representative accepting the award on his behalf as the artist was not present at the ceremony.

Drastic emerged as the winner ahead of fellow finalist Arlen Seaton in the category recognizing excellence in songwriting within Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry.

A representative accepted the honor for the artist and thanked organizers and supporters during brief remarks.

“Let me just say, on behalf of Drastic, who is not currently on the island, thank you to the organizers, the minister, thank you very much, and all the team who worked hard to get this function running,” the representative said.

He also noted that the award reflected the artist’s long-standing commitment to his craft.

“I think this is a testimony of Drastic’s hard work over the years. He’s very dedicated to his music,” he added.

The Songwriter of the Year category was one of several awards presented during the National Music Awards ceremony recognizing performers, producers, bands, DJs and other contributors to the growth of Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry.
