A strong Antiguan presence was felt at this year’s Dominica Carnival, with revelers, performers and cultural groups travelling to Roseau in large numbers in what regional promoters describe as a growing exchange between the two islands’ festival communities.
Popular Bouyon performer Asa Bantan highlighted the turnout in a social media post from Roseau, noting that more Antiguans attended this year’s celebrations and describing the increased participation as a positive sign for regional marketing efforts.
He credited Dominica’s Ministry of Tourism and Discover Dominica Authority for delivering what he called one of the Caribbean’s premier carnival experiences and encouraged continued cross-promotion between the islands.
The wave of Antiguan participation extended beyond individual travelers to organized cultural groups. RT Performers, a youth-based cultural ensemble, proudly represented Antigua and Barbuda during the festivities.
In a statement, the group thanked sponsors for supporting the children’s participation and expressed appreciation to Afrikulture Stilt Walkers Inc. for welcoming them in Dominica.
“Our young cultural ambassadors are learning, growing, and enjoying every moment. The future of our culture is bright,” the group said.
Members of Antigua’s Soca Army were also visible throughout the carnival activities, adding to the vibrant regional mix of supporters and entertainers who traveled for the annual event.
The turnout reflects a broader trend of inter-island festival tourism, with performers and patrons increasingly crossing borders to support major cultural celebrations. Observers say the exchange benefits both destinations, strengthening cultural ties while expanding economic opportunities for artists, promoters and tourism stakeholders.
Dominica Carnival, known for its bouyon-driven energy and traditional mas elements, has continued to attract regional visitors, including a noticeable contingent from Antigua and Barbuda this year.
