The United States is raising a series of immigration fees this fall, adding new costs for foreign travelers and immigrants.

Customs and Border Protection said the fee for the I-94 Arrival/Departure Record at land borders will rise from $6 to $30 on Sept. 30. The change includes a new $24 surcharge.

Beginning Oct. 1, a $250 “Visa Integrity Fee” will apply to immigrants, with annual increases tied to inflation. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization fee will nearly double from $21 to $40, and enrollment in the Electronic Visa Update System will cost $30, up from no charge.

The State Department is also raising visa application fees. Non-petition-based visas such as B1/B2 tourist and business visas, student visas, and transit visas will climb from $185 to $460 — a 148% increase.

Other new charges include $550 for initial work authorization applications, $275 for renewals, and $100 for asylum applications, along with an annual $100 asylum maintenance fee.

Officials said the higher fees are meant to fund processing, security, and enforcement measures.
