ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved a waiver of electricity and water charges for the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Technical Center in Paynters, St. George.

The request was brought forward by Sports Minister Daryll Matthew on behalf of the ABFA, which Cabinet recognized as the official governing body for football in the country.

Officials described the Technical Center as a landmark, multi-million-dollar investment in national sports infrastructure. The facility includes two FIFA-certified artificial turf fields, modern changing rooms, laundry services, administrative offices, and public amenities. It also serves as the central hub for football training, youth development, and competitions, including school tournaments hosted in partnership with the Ministry of Sports.

Cabinet noted that similar concessions are extended to other national sports venues and said the decision ensures equal treatment for the ABFA facility.

The waiver, which will remain in place on a continuing basis, underscores government support for the Center’s role in advancing youth and community development, fostering sporting excellence, and enhancing Antigua and Barbuda’s profile in regional and international football.

In commending the ABFA, Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the country’s social and sporting infrastructure and creating more opportunities for young people through sports.
