The PLH development in Barbuda is expected to inject US$100 million into the Antiguan and Barbudan economy in 2026, with 800 people will be employed on the project, Prime Minister Gaston Browne told Parliament during Thursday’s Budget 2026 presentation.

Browne said the Barbuda project remains one of the country’s largest private-sector investments and a major driver of income and employment on the sister island. He noted that 80 percent of the 800 workers on site are Barbudans, calling it evidence that large-scale development is directly benefiting local families.

According to the Prime Minister, PLH’s ongoing construction activity will continue to generate tens of millions of dollars in wages, contracts and procurement for local suppliers next year. He said the US$100 million economic impact underscores the scale of the project and its central role in Barbuda’s growth.

Browne told lawmakers that PLH is also providing substantial revenue support to the Barbuda Council, contributing more than $5 million annually through local taxes and fees. He said this revenue stream is helping the Council expand services and improve its financial position.

The Prime Minister described PLH as a cornerstone of Barbuda’s tourism and real estate expansion, noting that the development is advancing alongside other major projects, including Nikki Beach Barbuda’s residential phase scheduled to begin sales in early 2026.

Browne said the government remains focused on ensuring that Barbuda residents continue to access employment, training and entrepreneurial opportunities tied to the new investment activity.

Further details on Barbuda’s development outlook are expected during next week’s budget debate.
