A fire destroyed XPZ Supermarket’s Sir Sydney Walling Highway location Friday morning, nearly two years after the business reopened following a blaze at its original building.

Firefighters responded after smoke began spreading through the supermarket. Flames later engulfed the building, leaving it a total loss.

Early reports suggested the fire may have started in the kitchen and involved an electrical fault, but authorities have not confirmed the cause. There was no immediate confirmation of injuries.

XPZ’s original building was destroyed by fire in June 2021. Losses were estimated at EC$10 million, and dozens of employees were left out of work.
