Consumers and visitors faced higher restaurant and hotel costs in Antigua and Barbuda in July 2026, with prices in the category rising

6.5% over the previous 12 months

, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The National Bureau of Statistics reported the increase as part of broader price pressures across the economy, with the country’s overall inflation rate reaching

4.4% year-on-year in July

The 6.5% increase means prices in the Restaurants and Hotels category rose at a faster pace than overall inflation during the period.

The increase also came alongside higher prices in several other areas. Clothing and Footwear rose 6.6%, while Housing,

Water

, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels increased 7.6%. Communication recorded a particularly sharp 23.1% increase.

Food prices, however, moved in the opposite direction. The Food index declined 0.8% over the year, showing that price movements varied considerably depending on the goods and services consumers purchased.

The CPI measures average changes in prices paid by households for a basket of goods and services. The July figures were released by the National Bureau of Statistics under the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance.
