The media community in Antigua and Barbuda and across the Caribbean is mourning veteran broadcaster and communications professional Marcella André.

Born in Dominica, André moved to Antigua as a child after Hurricane David displaced her family in 1979. She later reflected on that experience in her TEDxAntigua presentation,

André began her broadcasting career in Dominica in the 1990s before spending more than 15 years in Antigua and Barbuda’s media industry. She became widely known through her work with Observer Media Group and Observer Radio.

Beyond broadcasting, she founded NIA Comms, a consultancy specialising in communications, public relations, marketing, training and event management. She was also a prominent master of ceremonies and public speaker.

André was passionate about mentoring and professional development, particularly supporting women and young people. In 2020, she co-founded the NIA Mentor Award, which provided financial support and mentorship to a female entrepreneur.

She was also involved in the arts and served as Antigua and Barbuda’s country director for the Caribbean Performing Arts Federation.

Remembered for her distinctive voice, confidence and commitment to excellence, André leaves behind a lasting influence on media and communications professionals across the region.

Details of her passing and funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
