The Antigua and Barbuda Government has ordered agencies to step up efforts to clear abandoned and derelict vehicles from communities and other public areas.

The Ministry of Social Transformation will coordinate the operation with the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, the National Solid Waste Management Authority and the Development Control Authority.

Authorities say abandoned vehicles can create safety and environmental risks while damaging the appearance of communities. Vehicle owners are being urged to remove them from public spaces, with agencies instructed to enforce existing laws.

The Government is also targeting unauthorised structures and occupation along beaches, roadsides and other public areas. People found occupying these spaces unlawfully may be required to remove their belongings and structures, with the Ministry of Social Transformation intervening where necessary.

Cabinet said beaches must remain accessible to residents and visitors and warned against activities that obstruct roads, create hazards or contribute to poor environmental conditions.

The measures form part of a wider campaign against littering, illegal dumping and the misuse of public spaces.
