Antigua and Barbuda is set to introduce legislation aimed at giving forensic services a formal legal and institutional framework.

The Antigua and Barbuda Forensic Services Bill, 2026 is due to be presented in the House of Representatives on September 18. The proposed law would strengthen the use of forensic examinations and scientific analysis in criminal investigations and court proceedings.

Cabinet said the move reflects the growing importance of scientific evidence in investigating and prosecuting serious offences.

The Bill forms part of a wider legislative programme outlined by Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin, covering policing, firearms, sentencing powers, fire and rescue services and mental-health care.

Government said formally establishing forensic services would provide investigators and the courts with stronger institutional support.
