As Communities Call for Change, the Jane E. Toussaint Foundation Answers with a Free National Healing Symposium
Online registration for the Wadadli Healing Symposium opens today. The two-day event, dedicated to healing, culture, and community wellbeing, is brought to the people of Antigua and Barbuda by the Jane E. Toussaint Foundation in partnership with The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus and Be The Healing Inc. Admission is free, but places are strictly limited. Registration is first-come-first-served and will close as soon as capacity is reached. Residents are urged to secure their place now at Wadadli Healing Symposium
The symposium brings together internationally recognised speakers and practitioners alongside their local counterparts to address historical and community trauma, and to share practical tools for productive youth, stronger families and communities.
Day One, on 6 October, opens with a cultural showcase during which Poet Dotsie Isaac will debut an original work commissioned specifically for the Symposium. The showcase will also feature panorama champions Hells Gate Steel Orchestra and will be followed by a keynote address from Dr Joy DeGruy whose seminars have been widely praised as among the most dynamic and inspirational presentations on healing, culture, race relations, and contemporary social issues. Be The Healing Inc. is the nonprofit arm of Dr DeGruy’s work.
Day Two continues the programme with a session on male engagement facilitated by Dr David C. Miller, who is renowned for leading healing circles with men and boys. His work focuses on decision-making, impulse control, mental health awareness, joy and managing anger. And with a specific focus on our youth (ages 15-24) issues of identity, belonging, and emotional wellness, Dr Miller will also co-facilitate a workshop with Persephone Modeste, LMHC, CCTP
Day Two also features Elder Michael and Eldress Jackie Campbell, a husband-and-wife team who have devoted decades to developing and delivering culturally responsive programming for Black youth and families.
Also on Day 2, Dr. DeGruy will lead an in depth professional development session for mental health therapists, social workers, counselors and traditional healers. This workshop will cover comtemporary healing modalities specifically designed for people of African decent.
This is a rare opportunity to engage with world-class practitioners at no cost — but once capacity is reached, registration closes. Do not wait. Secure your place today before it is too late.
Registration is now open at www.janetoussaintfoundation.org.
