The Antigua and Barbuda Athletic Association has celebrated javelin thrower Maliek Francis following a record-breaking 2026 season that further established him as one of the country’s leading young track and field athletes.

In a message to Francis, the association praised his work, discipline and determination, saying his achievements had earned him a place in Antigua and Barbuda’s athletics history.

Francis produced one of his biggest performances of the season at the OECS Track and Field Championships in St. Kitts in July, where he won the javelin with a throw of 66.11 metres. The performance established a new Antigua and Barbuda national mark and also broke the stadium record at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium.

The 18-year-old had earlier represented Antigua and Barbuda at the 2026 CARIFTA Games in Grenada, where he captured bronze in the Under-20 boys’ javelin with a throw of 60.14 metres.

Francis is also a former CARIFTA record holder, having produced a 68.84-metre throw in 2024 to win the Under-17 boys’ javelin title.

The Athletic Association said his latest accomplishments demonstrate his continued development and potential for even stronger performances.

It encouraged Francis to remain focused and committed to his goals while continuing to challenge his limits.

The association said it was proud of his outstanding season and looked forward to celebrating further milestones and successes with him in the years ahead.
