The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division in Antigua and Barbuda is alerting motorists to a major Nissan recall affecting 600,595 vehicles in Japan because of a software problem involving the lithium-ion battery controller.

The recall covers the Nissan Note, Note Aura and X-Trail equipped with the company’s e-POWER hybrid system. The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 12, 2020, and April 6, 2026.

According to the division, 322,023 Nissan Note vehicles from model years 2020 to 2026 are affected, along with 183,828 Note Aura vehicles from 2021 to 2026 and 94,744 X-Trail vehicles from 2022 to 2026.

The problem has been attributed to incorrect program logic in the battery controller. Under certain conditions, the system may falsely detect a fault, trigger an EV system warning and reduce power from the traction motor.

In more serious cases, power to the drive motor could be cut while the vehicle is moving, potentially leaving it unable to continue.

Nissan’s remedy involves updating the lithium-ion battery controller with corrected software. The repair will be carried out free of charge.
