US Warns Nationals of 12 Countries to Leave or Face Deportation After Ending Temporary Protection

The US Department of Homeland Security says the termination of Temporary Protected Status is now in effect for nationals of 12 countries.

The affected countries are Haiti, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Cameroon, Nepal, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela, South Sudan, Myanmar — identified as Burma by US authorities — and Somalia.

In an online notice, the department urged people whose TPS has ended to leave the United States immediately or face deportation.

TPS allows eligible nationals of designated countries to live and work temporarily in the United States when armed conflict, natural disasters or other extraordinary conditions make returning home unsafe.

The termination of the programme removes those temporary protections, although some affected migrants may have another lawful immigration status or qualify for alternative relief.
