LETTER: Social Security need to increase their funeral disbursements

    Dear Editor

When will Social Security raise the amount for their funeral disbursements?

Recently, I was listening to the debate in the senate and I was quite impressed with the bill that was passed concerning the remuneration of up to $20,000.00 to the immediate family members who is in bereavement of a deceased derived from a fatal accident.

Of course, I hope I understood it correctly.

Although, $20,000.00 cannot return the deceased to life, neither will it erase going forward, the forever life lasting pain & agony that will be experienced by the love one of the deceased, and perhaps it may not be enough to cover the funeral expenses, at least the $20,000 is a start.

Times are extremely hard and we are all impacted by inflation… Funerals are not cheap. It is full time that Social Security offer at least $7,500.00 for their funeral disbursements. The $2500.00 is just a drop in the bucket towards a funeral and a disrespect to the deceased and their family.
