Mr Chevaughn Burton, Assistant to the Focal Point for Safe Schools in the Ministry of Education, has represented Antigua and Barbuda at a major global education forum held at the United Nations.

Mr Burton participated in the Transforming Global Education Summit on 1 May 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan, New York.

The summit brought together education stakeholders from around the world to discuss strategies aimed at improving education systems and strengthening resilience in the face of global challenges.

During the event, emphasis was placed on the importance of disaster risk resilience in education. Antigua and Barbuda’s efforts to build national capacity in this area were highlighted as part of broader regional and international initiatives.

Officials say participation in forums such as this supports the country’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding education systems and ensuring they are better prepared to withstand and recover from disasters.
