Prime Minister Gaston Browne on Tuesday night announced that Antigua and Barbuda’s general election will be held on April 30, 2026 , with Nomination Day set for April 13 , as thousands of supporters filled the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) headquarters, People’s Place, for the party’s campaign launch.
May 1 will be a public holiday.
Waves of red flooded the venue as supporters packed the grounds, creating a charged atmosphere with music, cheers and party chants, marking the official start of the ABLP’s push for a fourth consecutive term in office.
Browne framed the election as a defining moment, urging voters to back what he described as a record of delivery and steady leadership.
He said his administration is personally committed to empowering every citizen and argued that the country has undergone a major transformation under ABLP leadership since 2014.
Browne told supporters that Antigua and Barbuda has moved “from struggle to strength,” pointing to economic recovery, job growth and expanded opportunities as key indicators of progress.
He said the government reversed significant job losses inherited from the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) administration and has since rebuilt the economy, creating what he described as a stronger and more resilient nation.
The prime minister highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, including roadworks and water expansion, along with policies aimed at improving living standards such as wage increases and support programmes for vulnerable households.
He said the ABLP has delivered on its promises and continues to advance policies designed to uplift citizens and strengthen the economy.
Browne told the crowd that voters now have a clear and viable choice in “Team Labour,” adding that the country is moving forward and should not risk reversing its gains.
The April 30 vote will determine whether the ABLP secures a fourth consecutive term in office, as political activity intensifies ahead of Nomination Day on April 13.
