Two senators from Antigua and Barbuda will travel to Trinidad and Tobago this week to take part in regional discussions on advancing women’s leadership in public life.

Labour Party Senator Kiz Johnson and Independent Senator Jamilla Kirwan will represent the country at a series of ParlAmericas meetings from 21 to 23 January.

The programme includes a gathering of women parliamentarians focused on tackling technology-facilitated gender-based violence against women in public life. The meeting is being held in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Participants are expected to explore practical areas of collaboration, drawing on the influence of women legislators to address the issue.

The visit will also include an in-person session of the Young Women in Leadership Regional Workshop, organised with UN Women Caribbean and the Caribbean Institute for Women in Leadership.

ParlAmericas promotes parliamentary diplomacy across the Inter-American system.
