Preparatory work on the All Saints Road reconstruction project is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, with officials indicating that technical planning and logistical arrangements are nearing completion.

Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office Maurice Merchant said detailed groundwork is underway ahead of the start of major construction on the roadway, which runs from All Saints Road to English Harbour.

“The pace is being accelerated,” Merchant said, adding that “lots of technical work is being carried out.”

He said preparations include finalizing contracts, ordering equipment and arranging shipping ahead of the commencement of works.

“As it relates to contracts and ordering of equipment, finalizing the shipping of equipment for the start of the work, lots of groundwork has already been done by the company,” Merchant said.

Merchant said assessments are also being conducted to minimize disruption to motorists during construction.

“They have been mapping out diversions to provide minimal disturbance to the flow of traffic in Antigua and Barbuda,” he said.

He said an announcement on the start date for construction is expected soon.

“I believe in a week or two, an announcement will be made… that work will commence at a particular time,” Merchant said, noting that officials are close to finalizing remaining details.

The All Saints Road project is one of several major infrastructure works being advanced by the government, with officials indicating that planning efforts are focused on ensuring smooth execution once construction begins.
