Operations at the New School of Agriculture, housed in the former Glanvilles Secondary School, are expected to begin as early as next month, the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies (ABCAS) has said.

Dr E. Jonah Greene, ABCAS President, said the curriculum is being developed in collaboration with local and regional agricultural experts. Two short courses in crop production and poultry farming are planned for launch between January and February.

The move follows last year’s decision to merge Glanvilles and Pares Secondary Schools, a strategy approved by Cabinet to address declining enrollment. Glanvilles had 163 students and Pares 178 at the time. Current Glanvilles students have been transferred to Pares, while teachers were reassigned or retained within the Ministry of Education.

Glanvilles’ facilities, including a science lab, home economics department, hydroponic unit, animal pens, and farm plots, are being repurposed to support the agricultural programme. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader focus on food security and specialised agricultural training.
