Prime Minister Gaston Browne says his administration has slashed the cost of road construction to about EC $2 million per mile, compared to roughly EC $10 million per mile under the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) government.

Speaking on the _Browne and Browne Show_ on Pointe FM, Browne said the reduction reflects improved efficiency, stronger oversight, and better value for taxpayers.

“When the UPP was in office, they were paying ten million dollars a mile for roads,” Browne said. “We are doing it for about two million dollars a mile — and with better quality work.”

He credited the Ministry of Works, engineers, and local contractors for delivering major savings while maintaining high construction standards.

“We have demonstrated that we can deliver infrastructure at a fraction of what it used to cost,” he said. “That’s because of accountability and better oversight.”

The prime minister said the results are evident in the government’s ongoing national road rehabilitation programme, which includes upgrades to All Saints Road, Valley Road North, Anchorage Road, and the Sir Sydney Walling Highway.

He added that the upcoming **$100 million road improvement project** , starting with a **$10 million drawdown** for All Saints Road, will continue to apply the same cost-efficient approach.

“Our goal is to deliver better roads for less,” Browne said. “That’s what good management looks like.”
