Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he is willing to partner with a Barbudan investor to open a nightclub on the sister island, describing it as a way to improve social options and encourage local enterprise.

“If there’s a Barbuda who wants to partner with me to put a nightclub in Barbuda, I will do it,” Browne said on the _Browne and Browne Show_.

He first floated the idea himself, joking that he might personally launch a venue. “I’m wondering if I shouldn’t go and open up a nice, beautiful nightclub, the Cassidgette Club in Barbuda,” he said.

Browne said more leisure and entertainment businesses are needed to complement the island’s recent development projects, which include the new airport and road upgrades. “The social life is almost non-existent,” he said. “They need a little cinema, even if it’s a little rudimentary one.”

He also invited private investors to take part in the island’s next phase of growth. “If we can get a few people to invest in a few social projects — when I say social, entertainment and leisure projects,” Browne said.

The comments came as Browne discussed wider opportunities for Barbudans to engage in business ventures tied to tourism and community life. The prime minister said new recreational spaces could support local employment and give residents more to do as Barbuda’s economy expands.
