    Moderate earthquake recorded near Antigua and Barbuda

    A 4.1 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of Antigua and Barbuda on Monday night, according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI, SRC).

    The tremor, which occurred at 8:20 pm local time (00:20 UTC), was located at latitude 16.57N and longitude 60.96W, at a depth of 10 km. The epicentre was approximately 115 km southeast of St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, and 73 km northeast of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

    There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but residents in some areas may have felt minor shaking.

    Seismologists at UWI, SRC have noted that this is a preliminary report, as the data was generated automatically and may be revised following further analysis.

    The Eastern Caribbean is a seismically active region, and experts continue to encourage residents to remain prepared for potential earthquakes. Authorities advise that in the event of strong shaking, individuals should take protective actions such as “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.”

    Residents who felt the tremor are encouraged to report their experiences to the UWI, SRC to assist in data collection and analysis.
