The Attorney General of Antigua and Barbuda recently briefed the Cabinet on the current crime situation, addressing concerns about break-ins, armed robberies, and other criminal activities that have been affecting families, businesses, and the social fabric of the nation.

In his report, the Attorney General assured the Cabinet that the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda (RPFAB) is actively responding to these challenges. The force has been making arrests, detaining suspects, and intensifying efforts to prevent crimes before they occur. The Attorney General commended the police for their vigilance and has requested increased physical presence, especially with the approach of Carnival 2024.

As part of the customary security preparations for major events, the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force (ABDF) will be collaborating with the RPFAB to enhance safety and security during the Carnival festivities. This joint effort aims to protect citizens, residents, and visitors expected to gather in St. John’s during the celebration.

The police have issued a specific warning to vehicle owners, urging them not to leave valuables visible in parked cars. This precaution comes in response to incidents where criminals have damaged vehicles to access visible valuables.

These measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to addressing crime concerns and ensuring a safe environment, particularly as the nation prepares for its upcoming Carnival celebrations.
