The Antigua and Barbuda government is moving to review foster care and adoption laws in an effort to make it easier for eligible children to move into permanent homes.

The review will examine legal and administrative barriers that may be causing unnecessary delays in the adoption process, particularly for children already in foster care.

Officials are expected to consider whether existing procedures can be streamlined while maintaining safeguards designed to protect children and ensure prospective adoptive parents are properly assessed.

The initiative is aimed at reducing the amount of time children spend in temporary care when suitable permanent families are available.

Any proposed changes arising from the review would be intended to strengthen the foster care and adoption system and improve long-term outcomes for children in need of stable homes.
