Prime Minister Gaston Browne has pledged financial support for soca artiste Tian Winter to produce a full album ahead of Antigua and Barbuda’s 70th Carnival anniversary in 2027.
Browne said Winter is currently the country’s leading soca performer and challenged him to use his experience to deliver a strong collection of music for the milestone celebration.
He argued that established artistes must help drive the development of the local industry by consistently releasing quality material. Browne pointed to the late soca icon Swallow and the band Burning Flames, whose steady musical output helped shape Antigua and Barbuda’s cultural identity over several decades.
While acknowledging the potential of younger performers, the prime minister said Winter has the experience, talent and profile needed to help elevate the standard of local soca.
Browne then publicly offered to contribute toward the cost of producing the proposed album.
The offer comes as officials plan an expanded celebration for Carnival’s 70th anniversary and seek to strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry as the festival competes for greater attention across the Caribbean and international markets.
