A magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded in the northeastern Caribbean early Sunday morning, with the epicenter located between Antigua and Barbuda and Guadeloupe.
According to an automatic earthquake location issued by the UWI Seismic Research Centre, the earthquake occurred at 6:16 a.m. local time on August 23, 2026.
The preliminary location placed the earthquake at a depth of 10 kilometres, at latitude 16.79N and longitude 61.08W.
The epicenter was approximately 92 kilometres southeast of St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, and 78 kilometres northeast of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe. It was also about 125 kilometres east of Brades, Montserrat.
The Seismic Research Centre said the preliminary location was calculated automatically by computer algorithms and remains subject to revision following evaluation by its analysts.
There were no immediate reports of damage included in the preliminary bulletin.
