Asabi Charles says she is still waiting for answers two years after the death of her 15-year-old daughter, Achazia James.

Charles marked the second anniversary of Achazia’s death on 18 August by reflecting on the teenager’s life, the future she never got to experience and the lack of accountability that continues to trouble the family.

Achazia, whom her mother called “KayKay”, would now be 17 and could have been preparing for the next stage of her education or entering the workforce.

With CSEC results recently released across the region, Charles said she could not help but think about how different life might have been for her daughter.

Instead, she said the family continues to live with unanswered questions.

“Still… no justice. Still no one held accountable. Still questions that remain unanswered,” Charles wrote in a letter marking the anniversary.

Charles said grief has become something she carries while continuing with everyday life, including caring for her other children and sharing in the happiness of those around her.

She also revealed that she has forgiven the person responsible for her daughter’s death, but said forgiveness has not ended her demand for justice.

“It simply means I refuse to allow whoever took your life to take the rest of mine too,” she wrote.

Her Christian faith, Charles said, has helped her cope with the loss and maintain hope that the truth will eventually emerge.

She described Achazia as a young girl who loved sports and her friends, had a caring nature and had her own ambitions for the future.

Charles said she does not want her daughter to be remembered only because of how she died.

She vowed to continue speaking about Achazia and seeking accountability, saying the passage of time has not weakened her determination.

“Still standing. Still praying. Still saying your name. Still loving you. Still fighting for you,” Charles wrote.

She ended her message by reaffirming her love for her daughter and her belief that the truth will eventually come to light.
