It is with great honour, immense pride, and a deep sense of responsibility that we formally introduce the incoming Guild Council of the University of the West Indies, Five Islands Campus, for the academic year 2026/2027.

Today marks more than a transition of leadership; it represents a renewed commitment to the students of this campus and to the values that define our Guild. As we embark on this journey, we do so with gratitude for the past, confidence in the future, and an unwavering dedication to serving the student body.

Before looking ahead, we pause to acknowledge and sincerely thank the outgoing Guild Council for their service. Their tenure was characterized by dedication, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to the students they represented. Through challenges and triumphs alike, they worked tirelessly to advocate for student interests, strengthen our community, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our campus. Their efforts have laid a foundation upon which we are privileged to build.

We also extend our appreciation to every Guild Council that has served before them. Each generation of student leaders has contributed to shaping the institution we know today. Their sacrifices, vision, and commitment have woven the fabric of our Guild and strengthened the voice of students across the years. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and we do not take that responsibility lightly.

As the incoming Guild Council, we recognize that leadership is not about starting anew; it is about building upon a legacy of service. We inherit both the accomplishments and the lessons of the past, and we accept the responsibility of moving the Guild forward with integrity, purpose, and accountability.

The Guild exists to represent the needs and interests of all students, to advance their educational, moral, and social development, and to foster meaningful participation in every aspect of university life. It is our responsibility to ensure that these principles remain at the heart of everything we do.

Our mandate for the year ahead is clear: to Rebuild the Guild and Restore Trust.

We recognize that trust is not demanded—it is earned. It is earned through transparency, consistency, accountability, and genuine engagement with the students we serve. Rebuilding the Guild means strengthening its structures, enhancing its visibility, and ensuring that every student understands that the Guild is not merely an organization, but their voice, their advocate, and their partner in shaping campus life.

The 2026/2027 Guild Council steps forward with a bold yet grounded vision. We envision a campus where every student feels seen, heard, supported, and empowered. We envision a Guild that is proactive rather than reactive—one that anticipates the needs of students and responds with innovation, compassion, and decisive action.

We are committed to increasing student participation in university life, promoting unity and fraternity among our students, strengthening relationships with the campus administration, and fostering collaboration with fellow Guilds and organizations across the region. We believe that meaningful progress is achieved through partnership, dialogue, and collective effort.

To the students of UWI Five Islands Campus: this Guild belongs to you.

We are honoured by your trust, inspired by your confidence, and humbled by the responsibility you have entrusted to us. We pledge to listen attentively, represent you fearlessly, and serve you faithfully throughout this academic year. We will advocate for your interests, celebrate your achievements, and work tirelessly to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive.

The foundation has been laid. The baton has been passed. And with gratitude for the past, confidence in the future, and a shared commitment to rebuilding our Guild and restoring trust, we move forward together.

Thank you, and may this be a year of progress, unity, and excellence for us all.
