ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has extended its operating hours to 10 p.m. as officials work to process a surge in voter ID card applications ahead of Thursday’s general election.

In a notice issued Wednesday, the Commission said the extended hours are intended to facilitate the printing of permanent voter ID cards submitted during the day and to ensure they are ready for collection early Thursday morning.

However, ABEC made clear that the window for replacement or renewal applications will close at 7 p.m.

“Anyone [who] presents themselves after 7 pm would have to return tomorrow for a Special ID Card,” the Commission stated.

The move comes amid heightened last-minute activity as electors rush to secure valid identification required to vote. The Commission has been urging voters to complete the process promptly to avoid delays on Election Day.

With polling set for April 30, officials are seeking to streamline operations and ensure all eligible voters are properly equipped to cast their ballots.
