The Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association expresses profound sadness and shock following the devastating fire at Gambles Medical Centre in St. John’s.

We stand in full support of Dr. Bernard Evan-Wong, owner of Gambles Medical Centre and former Treasurer of the Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association; his Dental Associate, Dr. Sarika Mooteram; as well as Dr. Hanybal Yazigi (Oncologist), Dr. Leon B. Stevens (Obstetrician and Gynecologist), Dr. Sharon Cordner (Internist and Rheumatologist), Dr. Edda Hadeed (Paediatrician), and Dr. Asha Robins (Surgeon), whose clinics, equipment, and patient records have been severely impacted.

We also extend our heartfelt sympathies to the attorneys and other professionals housed at Gambles Medical Centre who have suffered the loss of their offices and valuable records.

This tragic event represents not only a personal and professional loss for those directly affected but also a significant loss for the nation of Antigua and Barbuda. The impact will be felt by the many patients and clients who depend on their care and services.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the dentists, physicians, attorneys, others, their teams, and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

We respectfully ask the public for understanding, patience, and compassion as these professionals navigate this loss and begin the process of rebuilding.

We remain confident that, through resilience and determination, they will overcome this tragedy and continue their vital service to our nation, even stronger than before.

Dr. Deborah Akande, DDS, FAGD, FICD, MBA
    President
The Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association
