ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda — A historic water tank in the Liberta community has been left structurally unstable after it was struck by a motor vehicle, prompting a public safety warning from the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. E.P. Chet Greene.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Greene said the tank, located just outside the Grace Hill Moravian Church, sustained significant damage in the collision and is now considered dangerous.

“The community is advised that the historic water tank located just outside the Grace Hill Moravian Church in Liberta has sustained significant structural damage following a collision with a motor vehicle,” Greene said.

The structure, believed to be more than 100 years old, is now unstable and poses a serious risk to anyone who approaches it.

Greene said the relevant authorities have already been notified and that a report has been filed with the Public Works Department. Requests have also been made for urgent repairs to address the damage.

However, he warned that until repair work begins, the structure remains extremely hazardous.

“The public is hereby warned to keep a safe distance and refrain from approaching, leaning on or touching the water tank under any circumstances,” Greene said, adding that there is a risk the structure could collapse and cause injury or death.

Parents, guardians and teachers are also being urged to caution children against playing near the tank while the area remains unsafe.

Greene thanked residents for their vigilance and cooperation as efforts are made to address the situation.
