A new bathroom facility has been officially opened at the Yasco Sports Complex, with Sports Minister Daryll Matthew describing the development as the beginning of a broader effort to improve the country’s athletics infrastructure.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Matthew said the facility represents “the first step in that journey of ensuring that this facility is developed in a manner and full level that can be comfortable and accommodating.”
He noted that the improvement was necessary as the complex continues to host growing numbers of competitions and training sessions, including school meets and national track and field events.
Matthew also pointed to the importance of cooperation between the government, national sports associations and other stakeholders, saying the development of athletics requires a strong partnership among these groups.
The minister urged members of the athletics community to take care of the facility, telling athletes and officials to treat it with pride as the complex continues its gradual redevelopment.
The restroom facility is expected to improve conditions at the complex by providing proper amenities and separating areas for athletes and spectators, as well as for males and females.
