Communication costs in Antigua and Barbuda rose sharply over the past year, increasing 23.1% in the 12 months ending August 2026.

The increase was one of the largest recorded in the latest Consumer Price Index report released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Education costs also climbed significantly, increasing 13.3% over the same period.

Other increases included restaurants and hotels, up 6.5%, and clothing and footwear, which rose 5.7%. Meanwhile, miscellaneous goods and services declined 5.2%, while recreation and culture fell 3.4%.

The increases came as Antigua and Barbuda’s overall inflation rate reached 5.5% for the 12 months ending August.

The report said non-food categories were the main drivers of inflation, with electricity recording the largest increase at 42.9% and the overall energy index rising 20.6%.

The figures form part of the August 2026 Consumer Price Index report issued by the National Bureau of Statistics under the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance.
