Consumers in Antigua and Barbuda saw some relief at the checkout in August, with prices for coffee, tea and cocoa falling sharply during the month.

The latest Consumer Price Index report from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that the index for coffee, tea and cocoa declined

10.1% in August

Prices for soft drinks and concentrates also fell significantly, recording a

9.1% decrease

Together, the declines helped push the overall index for non-alcoholic beverages down

1.5% for the month

The reductions came as overall consumer prices moved in the opposite direction. Antigua and Barbuda’s Consumer Price Index increased

0.8% in August

, while food prices rose 0.3%.

Over the 12 months ending August, the country’s overall inflation rate stood at

5.5%

, driven largely by higher prices outside the food category.

The August CPI figures were released by the National Bureau of Statistics under the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance.
