    Antigua and Barbuda Chairs Regional Fisheries Meeting as Ministers Approve New Protocols

    Ministers approved 12 resolutions addressing marine spatial planning, seafood traceability, fisheries data and efforts to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.

    Antigua and Barbuda chaired a regional fisheries meeting in Jamaica where Caribbean ministers agreed on measures aimed at improving the management and sustainability of the region’s marine resources.

    The 17th Special Meeting of the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) Ministerial Council was held on Monday, September 28, in Trelawny, Jamaica, during Caribbean Week of Agriculture.

    Ministers responsible for fisheries, aquaculture and the blue economy approved 12 resolutions covering marine spatial planning, fisheries data, seafood traceability and efforts to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

    The decisions are expected to strengthen cooperation among Caribbean countries and provide a framework for addressing challenges affecting the region’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

    Antigua and Barbuda’s chairmanship placed the country at the forefront of discussions on regional fisheries policy and the sustainable use of marine resources.
