Air travel became significantly more expensive in Antigua and Barbuda in August, with passenger air transport costs rising 15.8% in just one month.

The increase was one of the major movements recorded in the latest Consumer Price Index report released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

Overall transport services increased 13.2% in August, driven mainly by the 15.8% increase in passenger transport by air.

The increase came during a month when consumer prices overall rose 0.8%.

Food prices increased at a much slower pace, rising 0.3% in August after declining 0.8% in July. Fish and seafood prices, however, jumped 12.1%, while fruit increased 4.5% and milk, cheese and eggs rose 3.2%.

Over the 12 months ending August 2026, Antigua and Barbuda’s overall inflation rate stood at 5.5%, with non-food categories accounting for much of the increase.

The August CPI figures were released by the National Bureau of Statistics under the Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance.
