Concerns about bail, sentencing and repeat offenders are expected to be discussed when Antigua and Barbuda’s Parliament sits next Monday and Tuesday, according to Cabinet.

Senior police officers raised the issues during a meeting with Cabinet on Wednesday. Their concerns focused on people suspected of serious crimes and those accused of repeatedly offending.

Cabinet said the concerns form part of a wider national discussion on crime and the administration of justice. The government is also examining measures to strengthen policing and border security and address illegal firearms.

The Cabinet notes did not identify any specific bill or proposal Parliament will consider.
